Fundamentals of Real Estate FAQ
Unlike the previous Relo platform where each course length was 75 hours, there’s no set timeframe with ReadyEngine™. Our courses are concept mastery driven, meaning you progress by demonstrating understanding of each topic rather than spending a set number of hours.
You can learn at your own pace or if you already know some topics, our initial assessment helps you skip concepts you understand. The goal is to ensure you’re truly ready for your exam and to receive a passing grade on the first try.
No. The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) requires you to complete and pass the Fundamentals of Real Estate course and exam first. Then, you can enrol in a practice course, like Residential where you’ll need to complete and pass the course and exam.
You can buy them together in our Real Estate Bundle on Relo. This way, you can get the best price now. The Practice course will unlock as soon as you complete and pass the Fundamentals course and exam.
On Relo, course completion consists of achieving a ReadyRating 4, passing two practice exams, and watching all video lessons. To know you’re truly ready for your exam, refer to your ReadyRating score as that gives you a real-time prediction of your exam odds. It stays updated throughout your progress, so that you know when to take the exam.
You do not book the pre-licensing exam through Relo. Once you complete your course requirements, we notify RECA. Next, log into your myRECA account to schedule and pay for your official pre-licensing exam directly with them. The exam fee is $235 per attempt, and you have two attempts. Both must be completed within three months of your course provider marking you ready in myRECA.
Effective July 1, 2026, all RECA pre-licensing exams must be written in person at an authorized Pearson VUE test centre. If you booked an online exam before July 1, 2026, you may still complete it online.
Course requirements: ReadyRating™ 4, passed two practice exams, and watched all video lessons.
